I'm excited to share my story with you. Have you ever had days when you wonder why you exist? I used to feel that way too, until September 11th, 2001. That morning, I went to work as usual, not expecting anything out of the ordinary. But something happened in our country that changed all of our lives forever. Sometimes, we take our lives for granted. That day, my life changed for the better. I gave my life to Jesus Christ and asked for forgiveness for my sins. I felt a strong DRIVE to tell everyone about Jesus and how He can save you. He came not to condemn us, but to save us.
Some moments in life are more exciting than others, like getting married, having a child, or buying a new home. For me, giving my life to God was very exciting. In 2003, I started helping a friend teach Sunday School. He invited me to join a short-term mission trip to Panama. I wasn't sure what I could offer, since I had only been a believer for two years and didn't know how to talk to people who didn't speak English. But God showed me He was in control. The people there understood us and came to know Jesus. That week, God showed me that if I trusted Him completely, He would be with me every step of the way. He also put it on my heart to become a full-time missionary. It's easy to let the world guide our lives, steer us in different directions, and drown out God's voice. I've done that many times myself.
In 2005, two years after my trip to Panama, I got an email from a woman named Elizabeth Moodie. She invited me to Almirante, Panama, to help with a project. I spent a lot of time praying and felt God calling me again to be a missionary. I went, and that experience started shaping me for what God had planned. I met Elizabeth and her family and learned about their vision for Almirante. I worked there for about three weeks before coming home. God kept working in my life, steering me down the path He wanted me to be.
On another trip in 2017, Elizabeth's mother talked to me about helping with the ministry and letting God build a new church and Mission House. I kept putting off the decision, thinking I couldn't do it. Then, heavy rains and a flood hit Almirante, destroying the Mission House. That was when God made it clear it was time to rebuild. That's how Drive for Christ started. I asked God, "How do I do all this?" He answered, "Allow me to take the wheel and steer you down every path." I believe God uses ordinary people, and we want as many people as possible to get involved. There are many ways God is working to provide. all that's needed. Stay with me and see what God is doing in Almirante, Panama.
Faith isn't meant to stay parked. At Drive for Christ, we believe that following Him means hitting the road to wherever the need is greatest—and right now, the road leads to Almirante.
A brief history of Almirante, Panama.
Almirante is located in Bocas del Toro province, which is the home of United Fruit Co., now known as Chiquita Banana, and a key port for banana exports. (Wikipedia)
The Mission House has played a significant role in ministering to this large port area and community by sharing food, clothing, and counseling.
There is no place to conduct the services they had before the heavy rains and the flooding. Drive for Christ needs prayers and financial support to bring this ministry back to the community in a way that honors God!
Elizabeth and her sister, Ofelia, are the backbone of The Mission House. God has a huge family that can make all this possible.
